Laboratory Testing
GeoTek's laboratories are fully equipped for testing soils, asphalt, concrete, and other construction materials. See laboratory capabilities . Special inspections are a separate, code-required observation service ( ICC special inspections ).
The lab computes and presents data with engineering software. Sampling, testing, and recording follow ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, and other procedures that apply.
Special Inspections
Special Inspections are defined by the International Building Code (IBC) as the "inspection of construction requiring the expertise of an approved special inspector in order to ensure compliance with the code and the approved construction documents." Special inspection includes both testing and inspection of the materials, installation, fabrication, erection or placement of components and connections to ensure compliance with the code, referenced standards adopted by the code, and approved construction documents.
GeoTek staffs special inspection and materials testing on tenant improvements through multi-story buildings. Inspectors hold certifications from the International Code Council (ICC), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Welding Society (AWS), and local agencies. GeoTek was the first firm in Nevada accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) of the ICC to perform special inspections.
The special inspector reports to the designers, the contractor, and the building department while the work is still open. Scheduling the inspection before that work starts cuts rework. Non-conforming items get to the contractor and developer before they are covered.
